PROJECT
The Authority is about to go out to
bid for a major rehabilitation project involving Hillcrest Oaks and Oakhurst
developments. This project has been four years in planning and involves almost $30
million that is being invested in Attleboro's public housing portfolio. We are going
to completely rehabilitate 212 existing units, build 11 new handicapped-accessible units,
create a community center for Hillcrest Oaks and construct a new building for Authority
administrative and maintenance operations. Working with the staff, Board of
Commissioners and residents over more than eight months, we have developed and DHCD has
approved a Relocation Plan for families that will be implemented in conjunction with the
start of construction. |
Construction will begin shortly at Hillcrest
Oaks and progress over the next two years. Hillcrest families will move to new
apartment units outfitted with state-of-the-art heating, electrical and plumbing systems,
as well as new equipment in kitchens and baths, new fixtures throughout the unit,
painting, refinished flooring, windows, doors and more. Separate proposals from the
Authority are currently being reviewed by DHCD for funding and they include exterior
lighting and security cameras and recorders to enhance security throughout the
development.
